Monday

Creating the first post on a new blog is always the most difficult. You sit and think forever trying to make sure you come up with something witty, interesting and perfect, when in fact you often don't. So it seems the best thing to do is what you do when you're writing anything and you get stuck --just get it over with, write ANYTHING and put something up to break the block.

I don't expect to attract a mass audience on this blog--in fact, I'm not going to actively promote or publicise it, just to see who manages to find it.

Sydney's autumn this year has been quite exceptional. Usually by about Easter time rain sets in and it's unusual that more than a day or two passes without rain, which is why I've tended to avoid camping at Easter. This year (allegedly one of the warmest in 105 years) it's been 25-30C regularly and the ocean temperature sits at close to 25C at a time of year when we're usually into the steamers by now) Had a surf on dark last night and the water was as warm as I've ever seen it in Sydney, even in Summer. If only it would stay this way...

Unfortunately, the wind patterns have delivered exactly to statistical expectations this year. By end of March the summer nor'easters give way to a period of doldrums. The odd southerly sneaks through but beyond that, it's only westerlies til about September.

It's another beautiful autumn day in Dee Why today. Not much surf but the temperature is a perfect 23-24C, with a light SW wind and bright blue skies. Not much surf around but that should change over the next week or so.
